FEMININE MIGRATION

Female migration is still often addressed passively or as forced migration, for example with people in the roles of a woman joining her household or as a victim of sexual exploitation.

Female migration is still often addressed passively or as forced migration, for example with people in the roles of a woman joining her household or as a victim of sexual exploitation.
Yet, the backgrounds and experiences of these women migrants are diverse and in a large number of cases they are women acting on their own migration project.
Therefore it becomes necessary to bring a gender-based approach in order to observe the specificities of this migration, notably in the tensions it uncovers linked between emancipation from and obligation to gender roles from the countries of origin and in the countries of destination.
