SQUATS AND ENCAMPMENTS

Since its creation, Trajectoires’ mission has been to prioritize the reabsorption of squats and encampments by the inclusion of inhabitants through common law systems, adapted to the diverse situations found on site. Today, the organization is positioned as a major actor in support of reabsorption policy, a position reinforced by the necessary distinction between the social services component and the diagnostic component, as well as the mastery of languages of origin and development of relationships in the countries of origin.

Understand better to act better! !

Over the years, Trajectoires developed a holistic expertise by conducting research, allowing micro and macro analyses of the situation in the field with the aim of inclusion. The methodology developed by Trajectoires is based on:

  • An individual approach of each participating household through interviews, the individual’s projects, capacities for inclusion, and specific needs
  • A global approach that takes into account the specific collective dynamics inherent in daily life in squats or encampments and the unique characteristics of each site, in order to offer key understanding of systemic interactions, the issues and challenges of stabilization and/or reabsorption.
The entirety of the diagnostic work is the subject of restitution with all stakeholders in the area in order to share observations and identify the levers and blockages to inclusion policy (vulnerability, influence phenomena and/or exploitation, child protection…) and in the end to aid the decision with respect to social services to implement.

Beyond diagnostics, action research, in some regions, Trajectoires also responds to the need to accompany stakeholders:

  • by following up on the implementation and coordination of field work, intervening in social mediation missions, and/or beginning of social intervention.
  • by accompanying regional governments on the understanding of issues and raising awareness of technicians and elected officials of the questions specific to encampments.
Thanks to the analysis and follow up tools we developed, Trajectoires offers its expertise and strong proposals in technical and political monitoring for where the organization is represented.
This methodology and approach are at work in multiple regions involved in the reabsorption policy: Loire-Atlantique, Val de Marne, Yvelines, Maine-et-Loire, Rhône, Isère, Gironde…
